Introduction

Emerging Issues in Research and Grant Proposal Writing is a serialised and intellectually engaging workshop. In this first of its series - Grant Proposal Writing and Management- renowned experts drawn from the academia and grant-giving organisations will be engaged to expose participants to securing and managing grants amidst competitions. In addition, participants will be taught the rubrics of proposal writing, a sine qua non for grants applications. In other words, participants will learn the proposal writing process with a solid understanding of not only the ideal proposal structure, but a holistic understanding of the fundamentals that determine viability of a grant proposal. This workshop is designed for both beginners and intermediate researchers seeking to strengthen their grant acquisition skills. It will also be immensely beneficial to the professional grant proposal writers. The 2-day workshop is powerfully loaded with guiding principles that are capable of magneting grants of any kind.

1. Fundamentals of Grant Proposal Writing
Fundamentals of Grant Writing is an invigorating and informative topic that will equip participants with the skills and tools needed to engage in grant writing. Designed for both first timers and experienced grant writers, this series will afford each participant an opportunity to become experts in proposal writing. With respect to teaching the basic components of a grant proposal, diverse approaches, and what is expected of grant writing, no doubt will lead to a mastery of the process. The impact will make each participant to stop writing the grant and start telling the story. Ultimately, this series will be so impactful and fulfilling.


In addition, this series will address very important forms of grants and samples will be displayed. It will also teach the strategic funding approach, such that expose participants to the integral part of the grant seeking process. Participants will be exposed to online and database research tools, as well as publications and directories that contain information about local and international foundations, corporations, and government grant opportunities.

2. Grant Management
Understanding the fundamentals of grant proposal writing is one thing, having a concise knowledge of how the grant is to be managed, is also critical to the successful execution of the project. It is important that every grant seeker understands that grant processes are always evolving through its lifecycle, from pre-award to post-award grant closeout. More so, the ever-changing grant regulations and requirements, which sometimes can be frustrating, demands meeting deadlines as well as having accurate details and ensuring financial transparency in order to accomplish the mission of the grant. Regardless of the type of grant sought – start-up grant, capital grant, general operating grant, programme or project grant, technical assistance grant, planning grant, etc. – a good grant management is required.


Therefore, to properly manage grant activities, avoid being blacklisted, mitigate financial risk and other mishaps that could occur in the absence of a grant management system, this session has been organized to expose participants to various rudiments of grant processes and management.
